“An original is a creation motivated by desire. Any reproduction of an original is motivated by necessity. It is marvelous that we are the only species that creates gratuitous forms. to create is divine, to reproduce is human” - Man Ray
Modern Design is not merely the design of a product, interaction or service but the design of the very experience which the user seeks while interacting with a product or service. Experience which is a curry of culture, emotion, interaction and affect in the mind of the user. Design is an intricate weave of ever-complex threads of science, art and engineering with all their branches spun each yarn. It is exclusive application of the inclusive knowledge acquired through experience, research, experiment and iteration.
Modern Design is Multidisciplinary.
In Design Discipline, IIIT DM Jabalpur, a holistic and all-inclusive philosophy is applied in Designing Designers of Modern Design at Masters and Doctoral level. The rigorous curriculum, the intense research methodologies, the diligent practice in skills creates knowledge based professionals of industrial design and innovation. The modern-age facilities of Rapid Prototyping, 3D scanning, Ultrasonic Plastic Welding, Water-Jet cutting, CNC (Lathe and Milling), Injection Molding, Vacuum Forming, etc with support staff skilled in wood, metal and plastic fabrication provide an incredible hands-on practical training to the students. The advanced Mac and Windows workstations equipped with professional 3D and 2D software, survey equipments like eye tracking camera, EMG equipment, etc. create an industry level environment for design process execution.
It is continuously emphasized at the institute that students get an international exposure in design practice. The institute is a member of the World Wide Consortium on Design Services with TU Delft (The Netherlands), EAFIT University, Medellín, Colombia, and Vaal University of Technology, South Africa which gives students a rare opportunity to work and learn with international team.
Design Workshop (Dew) is organized every two years by the institute with speakers from various parts of the world like Japan, The Netherlands, Germany, Singapore, etc. pertaining to both industry and academia. |
